Perhaps no one has been waiting to hear those words "you came second" more than our main man, Ian. We interview the Days of the Daintree mega star after the recent announcement that he came second in Australia's favourite bird competition and if he was disappointed in not winning . In a moving acceptance speech he took the opportunity to address his own thoughts about beauty and self deprivation . " Am I disappointed...No not at all, I remember a time when I felt "unbeautiful" to even enter such a comp, I got teased and taunted and called alot of names throughout my life and my self-hate grew worse, as you can imagine. I even had an identy crisis, was I chicken , am I even a bird or a rat ? But when I entered this comp.... WOW. Australia was embracing the bin chicken, the rubbish rat, thats me, i couldnt beleive it. I didn’t feel deserving of the attention, I was so grateful to see so many people cheering for me to win. "It all feels incredibly surreal. You know, it's surreal because you can't reach out and physically meet everybody. You hear it on the Internet, you hear it from other birds and, you know, the truth is, we always strive for the best in what we do," he said. "But this year in particular, I've been overwhelmed with such support—really, truly, by so many fans and so many people in the industry of bird watching . It's quite shocking, actually. And what can you say except I'm really am honoured , what an experience !
