Another wintertime favourite of mine is the Northern Shrike. When they said 'appearances can be deceiving', I think they were referring to this species. A songbird the size of a robin with a scattered, yet melodic song. They mimic other birds' calls to attract them. Sounds pretty neat hey? Once they've lured them closer, they dive-bomb them and (often) impale them on thorns or barbed wire, to 'save them for later'.
